White Label vs Source Code vs Recharge API: Which One Should You Buy?
Key takeaways
- White label = we run the system, you run the business under your brand
- Source code = you own and host the code, you need a developer
- API = you already have an app or website and just need recharges
Almost every week someone calls us with the same question, phrased a little differently: "Should I take the software, the source code or just the API?" Fair question. The three names sound similar, and a lot of websites use them loosely. They are not the same thing, and picking the wrong one can cost you months.
Here is how we explain it on the phone.
The one-line version
| Option | In one line | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| White label software | A ready recharge business in your brand. We host and maintain it. | People starting a recharge business or a distributor network |
| Source code | You buy the code and run it on your own server. | Companies with an in-house developer who want full control |
| Recharge API | A connection your existing app or website calls to do recharges. | Businesses that already have their own platform |
White label software: you run the business, we run the system
With white label, you get a website, an Android app and an admin panel with your logo and name on it. Your retailers and distributors never see "A1Topup" anywhere. Behind the scenes we keep the servers running, connect the recharge APIs and push updates.
What you do: bring retailers, set commission, handle your customers. What you do not do: worry about servers, SSL, operator changes or app updates.
Our plans are one-time: Starter ₹7,500, Gold ₹15,500 and Platinum ₹24,500, with no setup fee. The difference is mainly how many recharge APIs you can connect and whether you can resell API access. Details are on the price page.
If you cannot name the developer who will maintain your server next year, do not buy source code yet. Start with white label and move later.
Source code: full control, full responsibility
Source code means you own the website and admin portal code. You can change anything, add your own modules and host it wherever you like. Our source code plans start at ₹60,000 (Gold ₹70,000, Platinum ₹80,000). One thing people often miss: the Android app source code is not part of it.
The honest catch is maintenance. Operators change APIs, servers need updates, security patches keep coming. If you do not have a developer who will stay with the project, source code turns into a headache. See what is included on the source code page.
Recharge API: when you already have a platform
If you already run an app, a payments website or a billing system, you do not need a second platform. You need a reliable connection that does recharges and tells your system the result. That is a recharge API. Your developer integrates it once, and every recharge from your app goes through it.
API plans are a one-time fee (₹3,000, ₹4,500 or ₹5,500), and you earn operator-wise commission on every successful recharge. The full list is on the API commission page.
Quick way to decide
- Do you already have an app or website your customers use? If yes, start with the API.
- No platform, and no developer on your team? Take white label.
- You have a developer and want to build features nobody else has? Consider source code.
Cost over the first year
| White label | Source code | API only | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Upfront | ₹7,500 to ₹24,500 | ₹60,000 to ₹80,000 | ₹3,000 to ₹5,500 |
| Developer needed | No | Yes, ongoing | Yes, for integration |
| Server and maintenance | Handled by us | Your responsibility | Your existing platform |
| Time to go live | A few working days | Depends on your developer | Depends on your integration |
Can you switch later?
Yes, and many people do. A common path is to start on white label, build a retailer network, and move to source code once the business is large enough to justify a developer. Starting small is rarely the wrong move.
